Tyagi Box Office Collection
The Tyagi community, originally known as Taga, is a caste of cultivators who assert their Brahmin identity. This land-owning group is mainly found in Western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan, and is often regarded as one of the highest agricultural castes. During the period of British rule, they adopted the name Tyagi and began to claim Brahmin status. According to a report from the Backward Classes Commission of the Government of Haryana in 1990, the majority of Tyagis were engaged in farming. In 2016, the Government of Haryana extended reservation benefits to Tyagis along with five other castes; however, this decision was soon put on hold by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
