Sholay is a 1975 Indian action-adventure film in Hindi, directed by Ramesh Sippy and produced by his father, G. P. Sippy. The screenplay was crafted by the writing duo Salim–Javed. The story revolves around two criminals, Veeru (played by Dharmendra) and Jai (portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan), who are recruited by a retired police officer (Sanjeev Kumar) to apprehend the merciless bandit Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan). The film also features Hema Malini and Jaya Bhaduri, who play the roles of Veeru and Jai’s love interests, Basanti and Radha, respectively. The film's music was composed by R.D. Burman
